US Citizens Travel to Mexico – for Ozempic

November 1, 2025

Mexico

Despite proposed international tariffs and political turmoil, robust demand for Ozempic along with international medical tourism continues to thrive. In fact, it’s nothing new. It’s been happening for years and shows no signs of slowing. Access to healthcare and pharmaceuticals has become prohibitively expensive. As a result, people will travel thousands of miles for discounted drugs and medical care — especially in the face of rising inflation and costs of living in the United States. More and more Americans are willing to travel to countries like Mexico where popular weight loss drugs such as Ozempic can be purchased for a fraction of the price and often without a prescription (although consultation with a doctor is recommended). Resultant weight loss drug shortages in countries like Mexico have become an issue due to popularity and high demand. Ozempic is available in the US but it’s also currently very expensive. The average cost is around 1,000 dollars a month without insurance. Compare that to Mexico where the monthly uninsured cost is typically below 500 dollars. Another factor to consider is the current strong US dollar which increases buying power as it rises in value internationally. Ozempic and other weight loss drugs like Wegovy are also sold in other countries although at a lesser discount. A useful price comparison chart is available at RenewBariatric.com where one can also find more information on a 25 dollar a month Novo Nordisk program called the “Ozempic Support Program” or “Patient Assistance Program.” That almost sounds too good to be true so what’s the catch? First you have to meet certain criteria to qualify for the discount patient assistance program as detailed on their website. It also requires a doctor’s note and approval process that’s been the topic of several reddit community discussions, including some complaints about the program.
