Mother’s Day or Dia de las Madras is one of the most celebrated holidays in Hispanic culture where mothers are uniquely revered and hold a position of prominence and respect within the family. Latin American Mother’s Day traditions differ from those in America; Dia de las Madras in Latin America is literally an all-day celebration filled with endless parties and festivities. In Mexico, the celebrations actual begin a day before Mother’s Day, similar to Christmas Eve, Mother’s Day festivities begin the night before on “Mother’s Day Eve.” And Mother’s Day itself is celebrated on an entirely different day : Saturday May 10th. Besides regional differences in culture and tradition, the dates upon which Mother’s Day is celebrated vary widely from one Latin American country to another– Costa Rica celebrates Mother’s Day in August, Argentina in October and Panama celebrates it in December.
