The 50 Best Restaurants award ceremony for Latin America took place on Tuesday 15th November 2022 in Mérida, Yucatán. The first in-person meeting for the region’s gastronomic community since 2019, an additional 50 more restaurants were added to the first 1-50 list rankings. For the first time, Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants included a total of 100 venues; the 51-100 list expanded the original selection to highlight diverse extraordinary restaurants. The new list was voted for by the same 300 Academy members that also votes for Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants. The awards were created to include and “shine a spotlight …on a greater number of hospitality establishments and culinary cultures”. Announced on November 3rd, the new 51-100 restaurant list is available online (here and on Youtube). The inaugural 51-100 list highlights two new culinary destinations — Flor de Lis in Guatemala City at No.51 and Origem in Salvador de Bahia at No.52. Buenos Aires, Argentina stands out as a center for culinary excellence with six restaurants on the extended list – the most of any destination. Restaurants on the list included: Alo’s (No.53), Anafe (No.55), Crizia (No.66), Anchoita (No.73), Niño Gordo (No.75), and Narda Comedor (No.87).
