Poppy Delevingne’s custom Chanel wedding dress was stunning enough with its intricate beading, sheer skirt and floral design, but when it was revealed that the dress converted to a cute short mini dress simply by detaching the sheer skirt, it became even more incredible. As if it isn’t enough to own one Chanel Haute Couture dress, but to have it serve as a wedding dress, party dress and yet be elegant and versatile enough to wear over and over again. This isn’t a first for the design company either– Chanel has produced convertible dresses in the past, which may be occasionally found at online retailers. Convertible wedding gowns are one solution for brides who would have otherwise opted for two wedding dresses– a formal gown for the ceremony and a shorter sexier dress for the reception party.
Designers have offered convertible wedding gowns as a practical solution by creating two-in-one wedding gowns that allow the wearer to conveniently add and/or detach various components of the dress without actually having to purchase two separate dresses as well as sparing brides inconvenience and hassle involved with coordinating two separate dresses. Certainly, owning a Chanel Haute Couture dress of any kind would be amazing but several other designers have also jumped on the convertible wedding dress bandwagon, including Reem Acra, Hayley Paige, Demetrios, Rosa Clara, Oscar de la Renta and Monique Lhuillier amongst others. And wedding gowns aren’t the only convertible dresses out there– convertible prom dresses and quinceanera dresses are also readily available. Chanel convertible dresses may also be found as vintage items and/or online, something to consider when searching for that perfect all-occasion dress.
