On Thursday evening Rias Baixas Wines & Bottlenotes hosted the Taste of Albariño, an interactive food and wine tasting experience, at the Metropolitan Pavilion in Chelsea. Present at the tasting were 16 different wineries from the Rias Baixas region of Spain which showcased the diversity and flavor profiles of Albariño wines. Rías Baixas is the Spanish Denominación de Origen (DO) for wines produced in the A Coruña and Pontevedra regions of Galicia; Albariño refers to the region’s famous white grape. Located in northwestern Spain, Rias Baixas is known for its verdant rich land and cool climate. España Verde or Green Spain refers to the coastline along the Atlantic ocean stretching from Galicia into the Basque country of northern Spain. The climate has been compared to that of Washington & Oregon in the US and Ireland. Interestingly, the Celtic connection between northern Spain and Ireland is an ongoing discussion, featured in an article by the BBC and other sources.
