The Luminous Poem, the latest work by artist Airan Kang, is a “must-see” exhibit currently at Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery in Chelsea. Kang’s latest exhibit “opens up the idea of the book from a concrete, self-contained object into a virtual space for the imagination,” as stated by the gallery’s website. An immersive experience, the viewer finds oneself surrounded by words, in a new dimensional space, reminiscent of works such as Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Mirrored Room. The central installation, The Luminous Poem, features a mirrored book large enough for the viewer to enter and immerse oneself within its mirrored structure as text from classic poetry projects onto the mirrored surfaces and across multiple spatial layers. As part of The Luminous Poem exhibit, Kang has also created a new series of glowing ancient scrolls as part of her Digital Lighting Book series which is intense, enlightening as well as visually tangible.
“The Luminous Poem” at Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery through June 13, 2015.
