April 20, 2015 by Staff Writer

When ‘Gloria’ star actress SofiaEspinosa stepped onto the red carpet in a blush colored gown at the 2015 Havana Film Festival in New York on closing night, everyone was wowed by her fabulous style.  One photographer said she reminded her of a young Frida Kahlo, in reference to her braided updo.

Following the US Premiere of  ‘Gloria’ at the DGA theater, a panel discussion took place where director, Christian Keller, revealed it took ten years to complete the film; SofiaEspinosa, the film’s star, sang and performed all of the songs. The film ‘Gloria’ chronicles the life of international pop star GloriaTrevi, the “Mexican Madonna,” who attained unparalleled stardom until a scandal threatened to destroy everything. “With its dry-eyed view of the seamier side of show business, it is a superior pop-star portrait. Ms. Espinos a’s ferocious performance evokes both Madonna and Miley Cyrus,” said film critic Stephen Holden, New York Times. The Gloria Trevi story remains a delicate topic in Mexico which the film bravely embraces and portrays with brutal honesty. Further details are available at imdb.com and at the Havana Film Festival website www.hffny.com.
